We file Research and development, and intellectual property assets arising from these activities, play a vital role in economic and social development. Value can be extracted from intangible properties in a number of ways, including outright sale, license, and joint venture or alliance. Alternatively, intangible assets may be used as a collateral. The decision on which avenue to select depends on market and business considerations. Market position, business strategy, and availability of the appropriate complementary assets or the possibility to develop or acquire these will dictate which strategy to pursue. To optimise the exploitation strategy, business managers and owners of intellectual property rights would benefit from expert advice in intellectual property management and intellectual assets valuation. To serve a growing demand for services in this area, National Innovation Agency (NIA) formed the Intellectual Property Management Unit (IPM) to advise on all issues related to the creation of value from intellectual property assets by both public and private organisations.
